As former students of Squadron 8 and its predecessor outfits, the legacy
we leave behind is embodied in the current Outlaw 8. One of the
characteristics that makes Squadron 8 unique is the deep desire of its
former members to give back to their "family". It is our vision that
ultimately all the classes of Squadron 8's lineage will become involved
in supporting the current and future generations of Outlaw 8. They are,
after all, our collective legacy.
|
In order to foster the preservation and continuation of the Squadron 8
heritage, the Outlaw Legacy Foundation has been established. Founded in
2004, it was initially begun to provide the framework for an annual
essay scholarship funded by the Class of 1999. However, the Foundation
was designed at the outset to be expanded into an all-outfit
association.
|
We are in the initial stages of that expansion, and we hope that all
those who have been part of Squadron 8 and its predecessor outfits will
participate to one degree or another. We are currently seeking
additional board members and committee members, as well as those
interested in forming a steering committee to establish membership
guidelines, etc. If you would like to be involved in this effort,
please post about your interest to the Outlaw Legacy Foundation forum
(free registration required). Below is a link to the Foundation's
charter and bylaws.
|
In addition, our bylaws are intentionally structured to allow as many
scholarships, fellowships, grants, etc. as we have funding for during
each fiscal year. Any individual class or other sub-group within the
Squadron 8 family can establish a gift, scholarship, or grant, and the
Foundation provides the IRS Code 503(c)(3) "Public Charity" vehicle.
100% of the donations for that gift will be distributed exactly as
specified by the benefactors. Below is a link to information about
several such funds that have already been established or are being
proposed.
